Education Technology (EdTech) Specialist
Integrate and manage digital technologies in educational settings — supporting teachers, selecting tools, and designing technology-enhanced learning experiences to improve educational outcomes.
Education Technology (EdTech) Specialists bridge the gap between technology and teaching. They work in schools, universities, NGOs, and EdTech companies to support the effective use of digital tools in education. In Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Education's digital transformation agenda — including the eSS (e-School System), e-Thaksalawa digital platform, and school computer labs — has created growing demand for EdTech professionals. EdTech Specialists help teachers integrate technology into lessons, select and implement learning management systems (LMS), manage school technology infrastructure, train educators on digital tools, design blended and online learning programmes, and evaluate the impact of technology on learning. At the university level, they support e-learning platforms, online course development, and digital assessment. In the private sector (EdTech companies), they work as product specialists, instructional designers, or implementation consultants. Internationally, EdTech is one of the fastest-growing sectors — the global EdTech market is valued at hundreds of billions of dollars. Sri Lankan EdTech Specialists with strong skills can access remote roles with international EdTech companies, significantly boosting income. This is a relatively new and evolving role in Sri Lanka — professionals who develop expertise early are well-positioned for leadership as the sector matures.
